“MOVING ON SWIFTLY”
MINOR ATTRACTIONS
“Moving on Swiftly” activates the Mandrake Hotel as a site for exploring the transitory nature of being. Building on In Memoriam of the Past, Anderson uses the hotel room as a place of pause between destinations—a temporary shelter within the longer journey of a life.
Curated by Anderson as a nine-night, an Afro-Caribbean tradition that celebrates the deceased nine days after death, the work becomes a ritual of release. The hotel space is activated as a site of remembrance and letting go, commemorating past versions of the self, former relationships, and lost communities that have shaped Anderson, and allowing them to be honoured and released in the process of self-actualisation.
The presentation won the Wyn prize for “Best Domestic Booth” within the fair.
